Reward Trip to San Diego

I say it was a reward trip...but we were planning to go anyways. We needed to get out of town for some fesh air and beach time! We got what we wished for. We went to San Diego and hit up our usual spots. The Zoo was great and we got to watch the birds be released. Everyday, when the Zoo opens to the public, 5-6 Macaws do a "fly-by" to the crowd. They were a little late on Sunday and so we were walking to the Rhino and we heard a lot of sqawking. A fancy cart stopped and a nice zookeeper gave us a heads-up that we could stand to the side and watch them as they prepared for their fly-by. We couldn't have been closer and it was really cool. We saw the baby Komdo Dragon for the first time...we usually see the big one but not the baby and it's a good thing there was thick glass to his cage!

We also hit the beach both days as it was sunny and beautiful. Gabby and Lilly had a blast playing in the ocean and the waves. Lilly collects LOTS of rocks on the beach and Gabby makes friends in the ocean. We pack a picnic lunch and the girls love to sit on the grass and munch. Maddy was a handful this trip. She is getting more and more mobile and that's great, just harder and harder to contain. She would not keep her hat on and we could only fight one battle so we chose the glasses. We also didn't have sunblock on our kids - we just aren't in summer mode yet. Well....they all walked away from the weekend a little pink. Gabby had pink shoulders, Lilly had pink cheeks and Maddy had pink ears, head, nose and hands. Maddy learned all about sand this trip and I'm pretty sure she ate several handfuls. I figure at some point she will learn that it does not taste good and I can only be so many places at once. We hit up Ocean Air Park on Saturday evening and the girls had a blast climbing on the rock. Gabby learned to jump off and Lilly is learning to climb the rock walls. That park is one of our favorites and the kids really enjoy it as well.

I was also a little nervous with Lilly on this trip as we are making good progress with potty training. We did have 1 accident on the trip but it was not a big deal so I would call it successful. All in all, it was a great trip. To top it off, Gordon got to Peete's and I got to go for a run on Torrey Pines - perfect!
