Lilly's First Weekend Alone at the Farm

We had a great weekend. The weekend did not go as planned but then again...when does that happen? I took Friday off of work because our nanny had to do some pre-wedding things. My mom and Joyce came at 10:30 and grabbed Gabby and Lilly for Lilly's first night at the farm without mom or dad. I was then going to go to LAX and fly to Reno to visit Dora who I haven't seen in 2 years!! Well....as I was walking out the door - car running and packed - I got a text from Gordon informing me about the shooting at LAX. As it turned out - I couldn't get to Reno and so I cancelled my one night vacation that I had been dreaming about for weeks. I was depressed. My mother-in-law came over and watched Maddy so I could have some "me" time. It is funny, when you are given an afternoon to yourself - all of a sudden - I had nothing that sounded like fun to do. I ran a couple errands, went shopping and got a pedicure - not bad. Then I met Gordon for a brief tennis session and came home to a happy baby. Not all bad! Having only 1 kid at home felt like nothing!!! Once Maddy went to bed, Gordon and I rented a movie and pretended it was a date night. We slept in the next morning (something that never happens) and got up, read the newspaper, had coffee and were on official staycation. We played a little more tennis and then got a little restless. We decided to head to the farm to stay the night and then go for a bike ride the next morning. So, we packed up and headed to the farm. The girls were in good hands but I think my mother was happy that she didn't have to sleep with Lilly another night :) Lilly is not a good sleeper in a big bed...sleeps like a champ in a crib but in a big bed, she wakes up and rolls off all night long. At 2:30 in the morning, she decided it was time to get up and my mother had to be exhausted. Kristi and Heston came over and we had wine, nachoes and a good time just hanging out. No agenda. The next morning, we went for a horseback ride first thing and then a couple friend of ours came up to the farm with their 2 kids and the adults went for a good bike ride. We went for about 20-25 miles and it was wonderful...except the WIND!!! But, it was still fun to ride, but outside and to have friends. We got back, had a pizza lunch and then took all the kids for another horseback ride. I even had the opportunity to ride with Heston - he loved it and talked the whole time. Lilly was hillarious - if she was not on the horse - she was screaming bloody murder. Lilly did not think it was fair that she had to share her horse or that she was not allowed to ride. Man that girl has a set of lungs! So, my dream weekend got cancelled but we had a wonderful weekend staying home. The girls had a blast and my mother is realizing how hard young kids are....she might (and only might) remember to close the bathroom doors, move grandpa Dales pill box and to put the trash in the other room! Our weekend was very restful and energizing but it was only possible because of my mother in law Ann and my mother Debi - THANK YOU! I appreciate all your help and I hope that you had some fun this weekend as well.
